Connecticut Association of Photographers (CAP)

The Connecticut Association of Photographers (CAP) is a state-wide organization for amateur photographers.
Now’s a great time to connect with Connecticut photographers. CAP sponsors field trips, workshops, speakers and special events like our recent “Pic of the Patch” Scavenger Hunt.

Introducing 2020 TOPS in Connecticut

TOPS in Connecticut is the premier venue for Connecticut photographers to compete and share their work. This competition is held every two years in even-numbered years. The 2020 event had almost 84 Connecticut photographers enter, competing with 397 photos!

Awards

A Best in Show Award will be given to the highest scoring photograph. In addition, special awards will be given for Best Portrait (either formal or informal), Best Landscape, Best Waterscape, Best Open Subject, Best Cityscape, Best Monochrome, Best Creative, Best Photojournalism, and Best Nature (PSA rules). Also, each of the three judges will be asked to select a Judge’s Choice award. In addition, all photos selected for the TOPS 100 list will receive a ribbon.

Contest Rules

  • The photographer must be a resident of Connecticut
  • Enter 5 photos across 9 categories
  • Competition upload opens – September 15, 2020
  • Competition upload closes – October 25, 2020

Darrell Gulin

Canon Explorer of Light

He has been photographing for over 35 years and has been a full-time nature/travel photographer for the last 26 years. His photographs have been published in Outdoor Photographer, Newsweek, National Geographic, Audubon, National Wildlife, Birder’s World, Sunset, Nature Conservancy, Popular Photography, Natures Best, and many more.
He is the past President of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).
He leads the Gulin / Ken & Lydia Strange workshops. He travels around the world capturing special moments photographically.

Lisa Langell

Tamron Ambassador, FotoPro Ambassador

She is a full-time, award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in numerous prestigious publications and galleries. As a child, bird watching ignited her lifelong love of nature and the camera. In 2010, she turned her passion for photography into a business and in 2015 she transitioned to photography full-time and left the corporate and consulting world behind.
Most recently, she was published on the front cover and wrote a feature article in Outdoor Photographer. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA). She is also an ambassador for Tamron, FotoPro and H&Y.

Peter Baumgarten

Olympus Visionary

Peter has been an Olympus Visionary since 2014 (the only Canadian ambassador) and a passionate photographer for over thirty years. He is also a 30-year veteran of the teaching profession at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels. Peter has been able to combine these two loves with the development of photography and graphic design courses and multi-day workshops.
His work has been published in a number of magazines including Canadian Geographic, Digital Photographer, PhotoNews and Shutterbug, along with being recognized for excellence and vision on a number of websites.
